Staying Focused – The Key to Faith

You will keep Him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:3

With the COVID-19 pandemic, we are reminded of our need to stay focused and not lose heart because of the fearful predictions being made. It isn’t a matter of denying reality but, rather, choosing which reality to put your trust in. Paul wrote to Timothy, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

For sure, there is a certain healthy "fear" that serves us well in avoiding potentially harmful situations, but the fear of uncertainty—of troubles that may lie ahead—or living in anxiety and worry is not from God. Trials are instead opportunities to grow our faith and trust in the One who holds our future in His loving, powerful hands and guides us through these difficult times as we seek Him in prayer.

The key to peace in difficult times is focusing on who God is and His power to keep His word and promises. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Rom. 8:28)

Remembering His unconditional love, His grace and mercy and His “compassions that fail not” (Lamentations 3:22) while worshiping Him for who He is, leaves little room for fear, doubt and panic to take root in our minds and hearts.

From Reflections of His Peace: Tranquility in Troubled Times

The key to perfect peace is found
In focusing mind, heart and soul,
On the one who rules the universe
Who is always in control.

For God our heavenly Father,
Is omnipotent and He, alone,
Is worthy of our worship and praise
As we humbly bow before His throne.

It is He who hears our every prayer,
And in wisdom gives what’s best
Who gives us strength to face each trial,
And calls our souls to peace and rest.

And as we concentrate on Him,
Seek Him first with every care,
Earthly burdens are diminished
As our faith is strengthened through prayer.
