Washing of Hands
Frequent washing of hands is a highly recommended practice to keep us free of Coronavirus germs and poor health. Another, more historic washing of hands, occurred in Matthew 27:24 when Pilot tried to wash his hands of any accountability for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
In creating us in His own image, God has given to each of us a "built-in" conscience to warn us when we are tempted to "sin"---to act out of the boundaries He has set for healthy lives. For true believers, the Holy Spirit convicts us and calls us to confess and turn from our sinful attitudes and ways.
But there is an increasingly subliminal effort in today’s culture to eliminate the concept of sin, to wash our hands of any accountability for disobeying God’s commandments. Thus, if there is no sin, there is no need of a Savior. Romans 3:23 reminds us,“ All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.
Jesus paid for all our sins on Calvary’s cross and has set free from the penalty of death those who have put their trust in Him. But Philippians 2:12 reminds us we need to "work out our salvation". Just as we wash our hands frequently to be free of germs, we need to confess our sins and be cleansed daily. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
From Reflections of God’s Love: Finding Security In An Insecure World
It was for our freedom, Jesus died,
To free all men from sin,
And through His risen life He offers,
Peace and joy within.
For as His Spirit comes and rules
Within each heart and soul,
He fills it with His mercy and grace,
And His love soon takes control.
And as we reach out to others
Out of fullness, not of need,
We give examples of His loving ways,
And those truths we’re called to heed.
And as His heavenly kingdom grows,
His glory is magnified,
And we see His purposes revealed,
Through souls He’s won and satisfied.
